Counselling,
Hypnotherapy, Psychotherapy or NLP.
What's the difference?
What
is Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy
is therapy that is undertaken with a subject in a state of hypnosis.
This is an induced mental state that has been used for thousands of
years in the treatment of psychological and psychosomatic
complaints, and still today holds an element of mystery and drama to
many. Although a popular misconception is that hypnosis is a form of
unconsciousness resembling sleep, contemporary research suggests
that it is actually a wakeful state of focused attention and
heightened suggestibility, with diminished peripheral awareness.
Hence there is no deep-seated mystery about the use of hypnosis as a
therapy technique, only a recordable change in brain frequency that
opens the incredible power of the subconscious mind to the client.
Hypnosis enables the vast array of therapeutic techniques to be used
with often lightening quick effect, so we combine it in a clinical
and cognitive form with NLP.
The
clinical applications of hypnotherapy have to be seen and
experienced to be believed, but once you have witnessed the positive
results, there is no going back.
What
is NLP?
Neuro
Linguistic Programming, often simply referred to as NLP, focuses
upon the incredible power of language within communication and
reminds us of just how powerful every word we utter can be. Allied
to this is NLP’s study of human behaviour and importantly what
‘works’ in human behaviour and what does not. With a clear
approach to ‘modelling’ what works and in addition to utilizing
the power of the subconscious mind NLP has found itself as one of
the most sought after set of skills and knowledge available in the
current psychological field.
“NLP
may be the most powerful vehicle for change in existence."
Modern Psychology Magazine.
What
is Psychotherapy?
In
the exploration of one’s place in life we often find ourselves
asking questions about our purpose, meaning and existence in the
world. This can lead to massive insights, which open up the
possibility to us of making changes in our life that suit our
current understanding of what it is to be us. Psychotherapy offers
more than just the space to explore this. It offers an abundance of
techniques taken from a variety of different therapeutic schools of
thought that can allow us to become aligned with a sense of how we
want to live our life.
In
essence psychotherapy enables a rich exploration of the infinite
possibilities that we as human beings have open to us. To find the
answers within enables growth that really does mean something. As
written centuries ago in Greek mythology, “That which is worth
learning cannot be taught”.
What
is Counselling?
Counselling
is a process that involves skills of caring, listening and
prompting. It is a way of relating to another person, enabling that
person to explore his or her thoughts, feelings and behaviours, in
order to reach a clearer self-understanding. That person is then
helped to find and use his or her strengths, so that they can cope
more effectively with their life by making appropriate decisions or
by taking relevant action.
Essentially,
counselling is a purposeful relationship in which one person helps
another to help themselves. The aim of counselling is to provide
help and support by the aid of an understanding listener.
